The history of the Bertram Yacht began in 1960, when an outstanding racer and part-time successful yacht broker, Richard Bertram with a huge advantage won the Miami - Nassau competition. He won on a 9.4-meter-long wooden Moppie boat with a rethought design of the “V-deep” hull contours from designer Raymond Hunt. The boat showed 30 knots in the open sea, which seemed incredible at that time. In 1961, at the New York National Exhibition, the shipyard presented its first model, Bertram 31, this time from a composite, but created on the basis of Moppiè. Later Bertram's sports experience began to be embodied in the speedboats of the shipyard, many of them won various races in the 60-70s.

Bertram boats were in demand by various services and were used as patrol, customs, fire and military.

Bertram Yacht was able to become not only the largest shipyard in Florida, but also to be among the most significant global manufacturers. In the best years, its staff exceeded a thousand people. 1986 was a year of rapid sales growth. However, in 1992, due to the introduction of a 10% luxury tax in the United States, the company goes bankrupt with only 30 employees, and Milan's Gruppo Varasi buys its assets. In 1998, the shipyard passed under the wing of the Ferretti Group. Today, Bertram Yacht exclusively builds sports fishers.

The company was one of the first to build offshore sports phishers. Thanks to the excellent seaworthiness and speed achieved, among other things, due to the successful modification of the “deep V” type contours, the Bertram yachts have won enduring popularity among the “big fishing” enthusiasts.
