Shipyard Pursuit Boats (United States)
Since 1950, Leon Slikkers, who at that time worked at the Chris-Craft shipyard, began to build motor boats in his garage. In 1955, he quit, sold the house and founded a small shipyard.
In 1956, Slikkers began experiments to create a fiberglass body. In 1961, the size of manufactured boats increased to 17 ', and the construction of wooden models was completely discontinued. 1964 is the year of the appearance of the SS235, Slickcraft's most successful model and a harbinger of the trend towards small boats as well as deep V-shaped boats. In 1966, production was launched at the Slickcraft factory at Brooks Avenue in Holland. In 1969, Slickcraft was sold to AMF. Leon Slikkers remains with the company as president and resigns in 1973.
In 1974, S2 Yachts, Inc., a sailboat builder, was founded. Over 4 years, its production facilities have doubled, and the Tiara 3100 and Pursuit series have been launched.
In 1980, the last Slickcraft manufactured by AMF was built. In 1983, S2 Yachts, Inc bought the Slickcraft brand from AMF and built a new Pursuit factory in Ft. Pierce Florida. In 1984, Leon Slikkers became CEO of the company. By 1989, the total number of employees reached 780, production facilities expanded repeatedly, and divisions Tiara Yachts, Pursuit Fishing Boats and Slickcraft Sportboats showed record sales.
In the 1990s, a large number of new models appeared, the company continued its expansion, took part in many yacht exhibitions and won awards such as the Positive Customer Service of MCI / Inc magazine. Magazine, Yamaha Motor Company Sales and Marketing Achievement Award and the “Beat Boat Show Display” at the Miami International Yacht Show. In the spring of 1992, the thousandth Tiara 3100 Open Classic was built. In 1994, an article appeared in Powerboats Reports stating that 95% of Tiara Yachts ship owners are going to opt for Tiara in the future. In 1996, Leon Slikkers was named the “Entrepreneur of the Year” by the State of Michigan in the manufacturing category and in 1997 and was placed in the Michigan Boating Hall of Fame.
In 2006, Pursuit received the NMMA Innovation Award and the NMMA CSI Award. In 2007 - the Boating Magazine Yacht of the Year 2006 Award for LS 345 Drummond Runner. In March 2008, at the Palm Beach Yacht Show, Pursuit unveiled its current flagship cruiser, the OS 375 Offshore. It is the largest outboard engine ever built by the Pursuit and powered by three Yamaha 350 engines. Today in the Pursuit lineup there are cruisers from 22'9; "to 39'2;" long.
