The modest overall dimensions, as well as all the listed advantages, are what primarily characterizes the diesel boat engines Yanmar. When the Japanese manufacturer launched the D-series engines into production, many shipowners were seriously alarmed. Still, they were offered a much more interesting solution compared to gasoline units.
Currently available for purchase are three models with a capacity of 27, 36 and 40 hp. Their weight is in the region of one hundred kilograms.
Yanmar outboard motors have a specific design of the cooling system and the combustion chamber. Thanks to her, they are able to work at low speed for an extremely long time.
As befits diesel engines, all three models of the line have 2 thermostats in the cooling system. If the outboard motor operates in a quiet mode, one of them provides heating of the water (cooling). As soon as the momentum begins to approach the maximum value, the temperature drops. Thus, with any load on the engine, it works in the same temperature mode, and therefore its effectiveness is beyond praise.
As stated above, the mass of the motors is about 100 kg. However, it could be even more if it were not for the designers of the Japanese company. They found an interesting solution, which allowed to reduce the mass. We are talking about the cylinder block, made of solid aluminum ingots.
In addition, nozzle blocks are installed on the motors. It includes not only the injectors, but also a small fuel pump. According to its characteristics, it [block] is comparable to those that are equipped with gasoline units. Moreover, high-speed. Thanks to the nozzle block, diesel fuel is dispensed extremely accurately. And since only as much combustible mixture as required is fed into the combustion chamber, the operation of the diesel outboard motor is smooth at any number of revolutions.
